Title
Following the avocado
Description
This ‘Fuerte’ Avocado tree from California stands as a symbol of gratitude to Atlixco, where this peerless variety originated. The son returns to the home of his father to perpetuate his kind. Planted by the California Avocado Society, April 18, 1946. – Plaque from the California Avocado Society to Atlixco, Pueblo, Mexico.
I feel at home here in Escondido, where over 100 years ago we shared and brought our avocado tree “El Fuerte.” Thousands of trees have been planted since then. Those trees make me feel at home.
I moved from Atlixco in 1986 to work in an avocado grove in San Marcos. My last job in Escondido it was in a printing company as a pressman, operating a 4-color press in 2016.
